Scotty Wells Sarasota Football

The Sarasota Football team under the leadership of second year head coach Amp Campbell, has seen a lot of changes and the biggest change for the players has definitely been the culture in the locker room. Senior TE Scotty Wells thinks accountability has been the most important from the players perspective. "My first year on varsity, things were a lot more relaxed and the coaches really didn’t get on us very much." Wells continued "there is an entire new vibe with the coaches we have now. Being here and being on time for everything has been the biggest change since I have been here." With the addition of offensive coordinator Tommie Battie, Wells sees his role growing in this offense. "I am concentrating on fixing the things I did wrong last year and if I do that, I can see 50+ catches for me this season." Wells was not on the varsity team the last time Sarasota made the playoffs and that is what helps motivate him everyday. "This is my last year at Sarasota and I want to be part of the team that helped turn this program around. Also beating Riverview is high on our list to accomplish this season." Wells is as serious about his school work, as he is about playing football and with a weighted GPA of 4.85, his decision on what college to attend will be based in part on his opportunity to get a great education. "I really want to play division one football but if that doesn’t workout, an academic scholarship would be an excellent second option." With the limited free time that Wells gets, he likes to play golf with his friends. "We don’t have any really great golfers in our group, so its fun to just get away and have fun with my friends." Wells said that things are moving fast for him during the season and sometimes he has to slow down and remember why he loves to play football. "I’m not going to lie, practice is not my favorite part of playing football. But I love the game day experience and that excitement makes the work we do, easier for me."
