Nolan Heaney Venice Cross Country

Venice junior Nolan Heaney has been a part of the varsity cross country team since his freshman year. Nolan has worked his way up through the ranks for Venice and is now the number 1 runner for Venice. A serious quad injury during his sophomore season could have derailed his career but he focused on his training and joined the track team to help train during the off season. "My goals before this season were to be the district and regional champion and with the district meet set for this weekend at North Port, I feel like there is no reason why I can’t reach those goals." Heaney continued "Since we lost one of most valued runners earlier this week, I’ve just tried to rally the team and hopefully we will have a good performance." But how does a runner improve their times consistently year after year and be considered a serious contender for a district title? "To be really honest, I would give most of the credit to my sleeping habits. During my first 2 years, I would stay up every night until 12 or 1 am and this year I have made sure to let my body rest as much as possible, so now I’m in bed by about 9:30 every night." Nolan made sure to also give a portion of the credit for his success, to the coaches of Venice cross country. "Honestly I love this team and this community. Without cross country, I'm not exactly sure where I would be right now."
