Riverview senior cheerleader Lucianna Maurer has been cheering since she was 8 years old and although Riverview doesn’t normally accept underclassmen on varsity, her experience was rewarded. Now in her 3rd year on varsity, Maurer has taken on different roles but this season she is a "flyer." If you pay attention during games, the people who are twirling through the air for our entertainment, sometimes suffer injuries just like the athletes. "You can’t worry about getting hurt or even think about it, because that is what causes mistakes." Lucianna continued, "It takes a lot of trust to do what we do and honestly I trust every single person on our team."
Lucianna is also preparing for her future after Riverview. She takes honors classes and with a 4.2 weighted GPA, she plans on attending USF for physical therapy.
Maurer is not only part of the sideline cheer for football basketball and volleyball but she is also part of the competitive cheer team for the Rams. On top of her school work and her obligations to both of her cheer teams, Lucianna also coaches Sarasota Sundevils youth cheerleading. The class of 26’ for Riverview has done a lot to revive the proud tradition of Riverview high. The most refreshing part of this senior class is that not only do they compete at an extremely high level but they also take what little free time they have to make sure the future of Riverview sports is in good hands.
