At Cardinal Mooney High School, it doesn't take long to notice Elijah Golden. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive lineman commands attention with his size, power, and relentless energy on the field. For the Cougars, he has become an anchor on their defense and one of the most feared players in Florida high school football.
Golden's growth as both a player and a leader has been undeniable. In his junior season, he piled up 61 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks, numbers that earned him MaxPreps Junior All-American honors and solidified his reputation as one of the premier defensive linemen in the 2026 recruiting class. But Golden's game is more than just stats. His ability to disrupt blocking schemes, hold his ground against the run, and chase down plays outside the pocket, showcases his versatility.
That talent has translated into big-time recruiting attention. Golden received over 40 Division I offers, including from national powers like Alabama, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech. Golden "basically I just prayed about it and asked to be lead to the right place. I also did a pros/ cons list and that helped me decide." In August 2025, he made his commitment official, choosing Notre Dame as the next step in his football journey.
Golden also wrestles for Cardinal Mooney. "I love football, but wrestling help keeps you in shape and it definitely toughens you up. As the youngest of 6, Elijah knows what it takes to be tough.
As his senior season continues, Elijah Golden's focus remains simple: dominate every snap, help lead the Cougars deep into the postseason, and prepare for the bright lights of South Bend. If his high school career is any indication, Golden is on track to leave a lasting mark both in Sarasota and beyond.
