For those of you that follow Venice football, the transfer of quarterback Darryon Jones has given the Indian offense a boost, just in time. Venice plays one of the hardest schedules in the FHSAA.
Jones has taken the reins of the Indians' offense with poise beyond his years. The talented signal-caller has blended athleticism, arm strength, and leadership and has steadied the ship for Venice just in time for post season play. "The coaches and my teammates have been very welcoming, so the transition has been pretty easy."
Jones is a 3H recruit and has offers from schools like Coastal Carolina, Howard, Sanford and Rhode Island and accepted a scholarship to play for Howard next season. Across the state of Florida and even across the United States, people in the football community know about Venice and Darryon is no exception. But I asked him if there was anything that surprised him when he arrived. "I think the thing that stood out to me the most was, how much work all of the players do everyday. The players lift every day, watch so much film and just continuously work to be the best."
Jones continued "I have a relationship with Jayce Nixon and that helped me pick up the offense a lot quicker."
Jones has shown the ability to make every throw on the field—threading tight windows, hitting deep routes in stride, and keeping defenses honest with his mobility. His calm presence in the pocket and decision-making under pressure have helped the Venice offense maintain its trademark balance and efficiency.
