As a 3-year varsity cheerleader, Riverview senior Ryelee Lococo is in rare company. During her sophomore year, Ryelee and three other girls, were the first under classmen to be promoted to varsity. Her versatility was important in her development, but she also won most spirited on her team the past 3 seasons and has been appointed cheer coordinator for the entire school. "At the end of each season at our banquet, the JV and varsity cheerleaders take a poll, and I was fortunate enough to win that award three years in a row.” Before this season, Ryelee was voted as co-captain as well. Besides cheering, Ryelee is part of the student council and is President of the Riverview "rowdies" which is a spirit club for the school, which covers all sports, and not just football. She is also vice president of the photography club, which contributes to being part of the yearbook team. As her senior year goes by, Ryelee shared the best part of being a Riverview cheerleader. "The connections you make with not just other varsity cheerleaders but JV as well, have been invaluable. We have a program called big/little and each varsity cheerleader is assigned a JV girl and you mentor them throughout the season, and I really like the connections we have made with the younger girls." When people think about cheerleaders, often times they wouldn't put them in an athletic category, but Ryelee is dispelling all of the usual stereotypes. In the spring, Lococo plans to try out for the inaugural flag football team for Riverview as well. I'm not sure there has ever been a student who embodies the spirit of a school or an entire community more than Ryelee. She has taken full advantage of her time of being a RHS student and used her energy to include as many of her fellow students in many different activities as possible. With a weighted GPA of 4.3, Ryelee is an excellent example of making the best of their high school years. It would have been a huge asset to have Ryelee as an intern for The Florida Sports Scene but it was a pleasure to learn all about the various things that she is passionate about and if she decides that photography/journalism is in her future, she will always be welcome to come and make our team as successful as she has with her cheerleading team.
