In football, the spotlight usually goes to the quarterback throwing the passes, the running back breaking tackles or the receiver making the big catch.

But behind every big play is an offensive lineman doing the dirty work.

For Venice High School junior Dominic Badagliacco, that work has become his calling.

Badagliacco, a member of the Class of 2028, enters the 2026 season as one of the young linemen looking to help keep the Venice Indians among Florida’s premier high school football programs. The 6-foot-1, 297-pound tackle brings an imposing physical presence to the offensive front.

And at Venice, expectations are high.

The Indians are coming off a 9-4 season in 2025 and have established themselves as one of the state’s most successful programs under head coach John Peacock. Venice has consistently competed for district, regional and state championships, creating an environment where young players are expected to develop and eventually take on major roles. Badagliacco is one of those players.

Listed at nearly 300 pounds, his size gives him the foundation to become a formidable presence in the trenches. His job isn’t necessarily glamorous, but it is critical: create running lanes, protect the quarterback and help set the physical tone for the offense.

For an offensive lineman, success is often measured by what happens behind the scenes.

A running back’s long touchdown run may make the highlights, but it starts with an offensive line winning at the point of attack. A quarterback’s clean pocket begins with the tackles keeping defenders away. Badagliacco’s development  will be key in giving Venice’s skill players the opportunity to make plays.

He is also part of an impressive young offensive line group at Venice, alongside fellow juniors such as Luca Cassella, Matthew Raney, Ryan Weimer, Umer Gul, Vuk Vuksanovic and Evin Kloster.

That competition within the position group can only make the Indians stronger.

For Badagliacco, the goal is simple: continue getting better, become a dependable presence up front and help Venice continue its tradition of winning.
