David Gjoka • Wellen Park Football

Wellen Park football has a rising defensive play-maker to keep an eye on this season in junior edge rusher David Gjoka.

Gjoka brings a combination of size, physicality and athleticism to the defensive front, giving Wellen Park an important weapon when it comes to putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks and disrupting the running game. A standout wrestler as well, Gjoka competed at 215 pounds and has demonstrated the kind of leverage, balance and physical toughness that can translate directly to the edge-rusher position. That wrestling background can be particularly valuable for a defensive lineman. The ability to use leverage, fight through contact and maintain balance can make the difference when an edge rusher is battling offensive tackles in the trenches.

Now entering his junior season, Gjoka has an opportunity to take another step forward and become one of Wellen Park’s defensive leaders.

For an emerging program, having players who are willing to embrace the physical side of the game is critical. Gjoka’s combination of football experience and wrestling toughness gives him the tools to become a disruptive presence on Friday nights.

As Gjoka continues to develop his pass-rush technique, improve his first step and dominate against the run, his impact on the Wellen Park defense will continue to grow.

For opposing offenses, that means No. 88 is a player worth knowing when they line up across from Wellen Park.
