Senior edge Ashari Charles is one of the most feared defensive players, not only in Florida but all over the United States. Charles finished his junior season with 107 tackles (15.5 TFL), 20 QBH, 13.5 sacks, 6 PBUs and 2 FF, while helping Venice capture its 4th Florida 7A title. Earlier this year, Charles committed to the Univerity of Miami and after all of the accolades he has amassed for the Indians, nothing means more to him than doing something that no other player at Venice has done, won back to back State titles. Because of his talent, you could literally write about Ashari every week, as probably the defensive MVP.
Charles has built his reputation on speed, power, and relentless energy — the kind that changes games and ignites sidelines. As one of the leaders of Venice High’s defensive unit, Charles has become a cornerstone of a team with championship aspirations.
"I take pride in setting the tone," Charles said. "If I can make the offense uncomfortable early, it gives our whole defense confidence. That’s what I’m out there to do — bring energy and make plays."
Earlier this year, Ashari committed to the University of Miami and when you are a 4H player, most schools are interested in how the player could help them. So what was it about Miami that caught Charles attention? "They were consistent. Right from the start, they let it be known that I was a priority for them and that was important to me."
For fans of the Indians, they hope that Ashari can help bring them 5 more wins. Good luck in the playoffs to Ashari and Venice football.
