Meet The People Behind The Florida Sports Scene
Matthew Geller
Founder & CEO
I want to introduce myself to SWFL. My name is Matthew Geller and I am the owner and lead writer for The Florida Sports Scene.
I moved to Florida three and a half years ago. As an avid sports junky, I immediately felt right at home in this rabid sports environment. I was able to visit different sporting events and I was pleasantly surprised by how enthusiastic this area is about athletics.
As a college graduate who suffered through many, many years of paying off my student debt, I empathized with the parents who often shoulder the load of their children's college tuition. So I went to work and did some networking and from that, The Florida Sports Scene was born.

Max Konovalov
Intern/Photographer
What’s up my name is Max Konovalov, I'm a junior at Lakewood ranch high school.
I moved here from Maryland about 6 years ago and love it in Florida. I played soccer for 5 years but found my passion for photography and chased it. I started my own photography business and decided to go all in.
I have grown my business a lot and have created a bunch of huge opportunities for my self such as taking pics at a MLS game, getting flown out to New Jersey for a tournament, taking pics for a brand Capelli, etc. My goal is to take pictures for CFB or in the NFL.
Valeria Schemel
Intern/Photographer
I am a junior year student at Venice High School and am currently interning at The Florida Sports Scene newspaper, where I have the opportunity to learn about the world of sports journalism.
Working here has been an amazing experience, building various skills, collaborating with the team, and gaining insight into how stories come together. I couldn’t have expected a better team, and the newspaper was an opportunity to further expand my abilities and try something new.
